The Role of Domain Walls on the Vortex Creep Dynamics in Unconventional Superconductors

چکیده
We investigate the influence of domain walls on the vortex dynamics in superconductors with multi-component order parameters. We show that, due to their complex structure domain walls can carry vortices with fractional flux quanta. The decay of conventional vortices into fractional ones on domain walls is examined. This decay presents an extraordinarily strong pinning mechanism for vortices and turns domain walls occupied with pinned fractional vortices into efficient barriers for the vortex motion. Therefore, domain walls can act as fences for the flux flow, preventing the decay of the remnant magnetic flux enclosed by them. Furthermore, the consequences of this property of domain walls on the vortex dynamics are discussed in connection with observed noise in the hysteresis cycle, using the Bean model of the critical vortex state. Based on this picture experimental data in the unconventional superconductors UPt3, U1−xThxBe13 and Sr2RuO4 are interpreted.

Transition into a low temperature supercon - ducting phase of unconventional pinning in Sr 2 RuO 4
We have found a sharp transition in the vortex creep rates at a temperature T * = 0.05T c in a single crystal of Sr 2 RuO 4 (T c = 1.03 K) by means of magnetic relaxation measurements. For T < T * , the initial creep rates drop to undetectable low levels. One explanation for this transition into a phase with such extremely low vortex creep is that the low-temperature phase of Sr 2 RuO 4 breaks ...
متن کاملGlassy properties of vortex creep in superconductors
We study a model for the dynamics of vortices in type II superconductors. In particular, we discuss glassy properties and “aging” in magnetic creep. At low temperatures a crossover point is found, Tg, where relaxation times seem to diverge á la Vogel-Tamman-Fulcher. Magnetic creep changes by crossing Tg: above Tg power law creep is found asymptotically followed by stretched exponential saturati...
متن کاملQuantum vortex creep :Hall and dissipative tunneling
Within the framework of the path-integral approach we study the quantum vortex creep for the situation where both the Hall and the dissipative dynamics are simultaneously present. We calculate the relaxation rate and the crossover temperature separating the thermal activation and the quantum tunneling processes for anisotropic or multilayer superconductors. The results are compared with the ava...
متن کاملCreep of superconducting vortices in the limit of vanishing temperature: a fingerprint of off-equilibrium dynamics.
We theoretically study the creep of vortex matter in superconductors. The low temperature experimental phenomenology, previously interpreted in terms of "quantum tunneling" of vortices, is reproduced by Monte Carlo simulations of a purely "classical" vortex model. We demonstrate that a nonzero creep rate in the limit of vanishing temperature is to be expected in systems with slow relaxations as...
متن کاملCritical-state effects on microwave losses in type-II superconductors
We discuss the microwave energy losses in superconductors in the critical state. The field-induced variations of the surface resistance are determined, in the framework of the Coffey and Clem model, by taking into account the distribution of the vortex magnetic field inside the sample. It is shown that the effects of the critical state cannot generally be disregarded to account for the experime...
